JUBILEE OF PRAISE

CHOIR MUSIC

In the early 1960's Levoy and Cleon served as choir directors in four different churches.  First Assembly of God, Lubbock, Texas, Plainview, Texas,

Amarilla, Texas, and Calvary Temple, Springfield, Missouri.

At one time, Levoy oversaw thirteen separate choirs. He had a choir for every age group, men's ensemble, and more.  People who hadn't been excepted into a choir would show up for rehearsals just in case there was an opening at the last minute.  Needless to say, Levoy's love and appreciation for three, four, and five part harmony was on full display in those years.

Fast forward a couple of decades and Levoy would be approached to re-enter the arena of large group choirs, yet again.  Two conductors by the name of Bill Hedrick and Eddie Hawks proposed that they arrange projects that would feature Dewey songs, performed by choirs.  Those works became known as Jubilee Of Praise, I and II.
